This is an excellent web-site if you wish to see photos of old Edinburgh and its surroundings. The extensive site, operated by Peter Stubbs is split into many categories, time-periods and locations, so it is very easy to navigate. There are also many life stories from people from all over the globe who at one time lived in an Edinburgh which has long since disappeared. It is fascinating stuff!
